College clubs are probably one of the best things you can do on campus because of the advantages they will bring you as an international student.
So here are reasons why you should join a college club as an international student in the US
College clubs are a great resume builder
No matter if you are “only” a member or if you have a leadership role in your club, adding that experience to your resume can help you in the future. It can be a conversation starter, a way to connect with future employers, or just something about you that sets you apart. You may get questions about your experience in this club during an interview, and who knows, maybe the interviewer was also a member of a similar club. It opens the doors to different discussions and will show a different and engaged side of you.
2. It’s a fun way to get the full American college experience and integrate yourself at a deeper level
Being in a club makes you a more active member of your university, no matter how long you have been studying there. Being active will make your experience a lot more interesting and fun. You will feel more attached to it!
3. You will meet so many people who share a similar interest with you, but whom you might not have met without the club
Clubs usually have a niche interest; no matter if it is consulting or swimming, it will help you meet people who are interested in the same things as you are. It's a great place to mix with people who have different majors through a common interest!
4. You could travel to different cities and universities
Based on the club, you may be getting some travel opportunities that you would not have had outside of the club. For instance, when I was a member of a swim club, I got to travel to so many meets across the East Coast, and it was such a fun way to discover the US. I went to Virginia, Washington D.C, South Carolina, Maryland, and North Carolina this way.
5. It is a fast track to making long-lasting friendships
Sharing a similar interest with the other club members is such a great way to connect with them and become friends with them. You can connect on something that you are all passionate about and that will save you time. Plus, you may not need to invest as much effort in becoming friends since you will see them during the club activities.
Overall, being part of a club is one of the best things you can do as an international student in the US if you are looking to have the real American college experience and if you want to make friends while working on your resume.
